the never ending tug-of-war between the appreciation of the taste of mulberries and the crippling desire to return to dust.

life is peaks and valleys. mulberries and dust. we can be so tired that we begin to find the beauty and solace in returning to dust. returning yourself to the earth to be a part of something more beautiful than you think you can ever become.

it’s always interesting to revisit this and see everyone’s varying levels of optimism and pessimism. it’s very Godard of him to use up the entire reel while other filmmakers just answer the question and turn the camera off. i think i most side with Antonioni’s thoughts and feelings on the matter, but as everyone talks about the history of orchestras, plays, etc, i really do start to wonder about the possibility of the movie theater dying out. it’s starting to look really scary. if you’re reading this, go to the damn movie theater please!
