  One of my mom's favorite anecdotes about me is from a family beach trip. I was 14 or 15 years old, and on a rainy day I was sent to the beach town Blockbuster to grab a movie for the family. This is what I brought back. I loved it, everyone hated it. My mom was furious at the time, but over the years the memory became precious and hilarious for her.

  Film school drop outs 2023 6/52: Woman-directed horror 

  You don’t see a lot of explicitly leftist coming of age stories and so this is definitely unique and compelling for that alone. But what really sells it for me is how the fable really has a level of complexity with the parents and children all being neither inherent good or bad, but rather responding to the use and abuse of state and family authority. The fucked up world of the adults…
