I love this movie!!! The first half may just be Nicolas cage and Laura dern fucking in motel rooms and singing and dancing, but when it wants to be serious it will be. It kept itself at an easy pace to follow for a Lynchian, maybe it got a bit lost here and there, but essentially one of the most chronological films of his that I’ve seen. I lovveeee the settings it takes place in and the aestheticism of dingy Americana hotel rooms really shines here! It was truly a love story at its core and I’m a sucker for a happy ending. It’s really good.

Despite the seemingly mediocre rating I really enjoyed this movie. It was funny and genuinely made me laugh, the settings and character dialogues really interested me. It’s really great for one of Dunham’s early works. The ending made me cry too. I love the natural acting of both of her sister and mother, it really elevates the conflict and drama between the three of them. It was really brilliant!

it was sooooooooooo good, I love Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley in this especially, but I can’t do body horror! 😅 it was really well done, so realistic, but I found myself having to look away and block my ears often (so many squelching sounds). It was so funny and I loved that it kept technology ambiguous although it was (seemingly) modern LA, I didn’t want to hear the same story of plastic surgery and social media influence be told…

I’m in love with the sadomasochistic underbelly of quaint suburbia that David Lynch illustrates in this film. It’s brilliantly gaudy in its environment, somehow stupidly funny, and terrifyingly vulgar. A confusing mindfuck of a noir crime wrapped inside of lynchian motifs. Plus 0.5 points for Kyle Mclachlan’s pathetically sexy performance of a weird fucking guy, everyone say thank you David Lynch!
