The best children's movie ever made. Far from the bland, artificial chill of Pixar's and Disney's products, Åhlin's masterpiece feature breathtaking hand-made visuals on par with any Ghibli-film.
Resan till Melonia is an unmistakable echo of the revolutionary 70's. The whole film is a critique of the unsustainability and barbary of capitalism, typical of the popular culture of that time.
I enjoy horror films. I'm not entirely sure why, though, as most films of the genre leave me unimpressed and my underwear unsoiled. 仄暗い水の底から is not an exception to this trend. The photography is good and the scenery and atmosphere are really good, but the usual mistakes of over-exposing the antagonist(s) and plastering the whole film with "spooky" sound effects and music are made.
Also: Why do horror-film directors never realize that having a complete catharsis is detrimental to these kinds of stories?
An interesting story ruined by shallow, Hollywood-esque characters and overall bland presentation.
A modest slice of life/drama, "Inside Llewyn Davis" follows the eponymous 60's folk singer as he struggles to get by in New York. Contrary to what I've come to expect from watching Coen films like "O Brother, Where art Thou?" or "Barton Fink", Inside Llewyn Davis doesn't offer a lot in the way of those memorable and wonderfully overstated characters (John Goodman's rude jazz musician being the exception).
