Handles its tonal shifts quite well. Always chaotic, but it’s able to spin that in ways that are funny and but also pretty dire. Everyone easily holds their own here and the second act’s chaotic nature really made this fly by in a good way.

Actually laughed when the intermission popped up in an hour and 45 minute movie. Odd feelings, the scenery is stunning and there’s a (mostly) peaceful sentiment to it all. Like I could watch so much more it, but I don’t actually feel any particularly strong attachment towards it.

Generation Kill 2008
Very good balance on not shying away from the war’s widespread incompetence and horribleness, but still maintaining sympathy and understanding for its participants.
There’s a lack of grandeur that makes it feel much more real and in the moment compared to other war series/movies (even if that makes it slightly less cinematically appealing). I really do appreciate the matter-of-factness that comes with this.

At times very good, bordering on great and at the very least extremely interesting. But for a long-ish movie it needs to do a better job at earning those last 20 minutes. The motivations behind a lot of the character work is definitely questionable at best and there is some meandering through the plot, all keeping it from getting close to that top level.
