There was a lot here that I liked, but not sure how I feel about the movie as a whole. Like other things I’ve seen from Godard, it was pessimistic in a way that kind of implies that the problem is inherent to humanity instead of a specific social system. Fwiw, I think that probably wasn’t his intention, but idk if that’s better or worse.

A really special movie
It’s beautiful and pensive and banal and moving. So simple yet complex
The way that it presents the tension between appearances/politeness and deeper feelings, between the mundane and the existential, between wanting to show respect and needing to live your own life.
And all of these tensions intersect and bleed together. And you can even map it onto the tradition/east vs modern/west motif that runs through the film. It’s just executed so well like damn
