Following 1998
Liked this quite a bit.
Easy to see how it propelled Nolan to bigger things so quickly and, knowing where he went since, it's fun to watch his later thematic and structural obsessions in their nascency.
Was a little disappointed that it became focussed on the twisty turny thriller element rather than some of the earlier ideas about voyeurism and confidence. That said, I think the performances are probably better suited to where the film ends up than to a more subtle conclusion.

A Sudden Glimpse to Deeper Things 2024
Northern Irish filmmaker Mark Cousins has made a career from examining the ways in which creative people perceive the world. A Sudden Glimpse to Depper Things is ostensibly a profile of British…

Wallace & Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl 2024
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
I have really mixed feelings on this and ultimately think I arrive at the conclusion that this is a bang-average, perfectly entertaining film. Unfortunately, it's also a bad Wallace and Gromit film.
My central issue with it is what I'm going to term the 'Gromit's Garden Problem'. Early on in the film we're shown the garden Gromit has worked hard to create. A beautiful, unique creation comparable to say, oh I don't know, a stop-motion animated short with a charmingly…
