I saw this directors first film like 10 years ago or so on Netflix and always wondered if he would come out with another film. Lo and behold searching through Hulu listings and I see this interesting thriller caption about a chef looking for a new life. I ask who directed this and see it’s the guy from the other movie.

Wife and I really enjoyed this. The acting is really good by everyone involved. The plot holds together well…

My son wanted to watch this so we watched all as a family and I forgot how good each beat hits. It’s a slow burn compared to what is put out today for families but the jokes and moments land better. As a kid a thought the old man was super creepy, watching as a parent, he looks like the nicest old man you could ever meet even from the very first time you see him.

Beutifully shot index of the horrors of slavery both physical and mental. The story suffers from the practicalties of sticking to a true story, abrupt beginning and even abrupter ending.

The masks! The ceremony! The piano! The blood test! Didn't know what was going to come next. Great film keeps you anticipating the next scene and then the next all the way through to the end. Never gives you all the answers you want but plenty to think about. Tom Cruise has never seemed smaller, which is a good thing, he feels small compared to the massiveness of the conspiracy that he is gotten caught up in and the grandure of his surroundings.
