  Felt like a long prequel and it seemed to abbreviate a lot of back story leaving holes in character motivations. I purposely had not read the books. It seems like there's such a large assumption that the audience knew the books.

  The main thing is the 1930s notion that this kind of thing could happen. Because was taking place. The real story was even more incredible. Nazis actually had infiltrated even deeper by making several connections into the US congress.
