One of Satoshi Kon’s underrated works. Japan does not have much Christmas culture like in the US, the film sets its own tone in that term. The story has its dark and realistic moments but the animation and comedic timing makes it one of my favorite holiday movies. The film is very stark difference compared to Satoshi Kon’s other works. It captured humanity at its worst and at its best. Enjoyable watch and heart warming ending.
One of my favorite Japanese films last year. The story is broken up similar to pulp fiction, where we see the perspective of each character. And you as viewer have to piece together to timeline and story. The acting and story is great, Its realistic in a way that something like this could happen irl. 100% worth the watch
Another Japanese survival horror movie, it’s worth the watch but it’s nothing extraordinary. The end reveal of the monster was quite eerie and very unsettling. The kills and gore were actually better than I expected and they use mostly practical effects which is nice. Downsides was the pacing and story itself. I wish they went more into the lore of the monster than the actual characters and the overall “take away meaning”
Similar to battle royale. There are some very creative kills and use of gore. Mix of practical effects and cgi. It’s a live adaptation of the manga, I never read it but I might after watching this. There are some renowned Japanese actors starring, it’s not their best performance but it’s still good. If you like survival horror and gore it’s worth the watch.
