Cowboys + Samurai… this movie was held back by its time and subpar acting. The concept, amazing. The movie starts off super interesting, with convincing motivations and characters. However, about midway through, it falls off due to a lack of focused story progression. This is a movie I would love to see remade with today’s actors/technology. Overall, it’s enjoyable for an old western.

Yes. At this point, the movie is over 40 years old, and you can tell. However, the expert use of cosmetics and live props for the Thing was impeccable. I was on the edge of my seat throughout. Naturally, there were a few things I could pick up on before the characters, but nonetheless I felt a sense of angst following the characters. The Thing is a horrific concept of an alien, and this movie portrayed it well. Understandably a cult classic.

It was cool to see where Lucas/Ford got started, but overall I was just confused as to what was happening. I didn’t understand the story too well, or at least not enough to warrant a full movie about it.

A couple big changes from the book (specifically Paul's relationship with Chani) but overall accurate and enjoyable. Austin Butler was phenomenal in my opinion, and the effects throughout were breathtaking. This has a good chance to pull a sweep at the Oscars.
