it feels disingenuous to write this review after awards season and two months of its stirring//forgetting—
the first half of the brutalist is brilliant. as the film opened i felt misty yet immensely giddy, thinking to myself “yes this is it!” as the intermission arrived i felt disappointed by the physical break in emotion we had just spent above an hour entranced by. we shouldn’t be allowed a break!

a24 only knows how to fund projects for the consumer that thinks “it was meant to be dumb” as being an accomplishment. any kids media has more character development than this whole movie, and now, those equally assume viewership means surrendering challenged thinking—spending more time arranging new york sidewalk garbage to look aesthetically pleasing. a youtube skit would’ve accomplished more dynamic kitschiness. this made me angry tilda
