I must first establish that sci-fi is by a long shot my least favorite genre 😔 I’ve tried to appreciate it and will continue to do so, but I am biased.

Cheesy, freaky, campy, and hot (which are usually some of my favorite artistic elements) but never came together… or perhaps were missing a 5th 😬

    Dark, whimsical, ugly but honest.

I must acknowledge my tendency to over rate stop motion, (how can I not when it’s such an expressive medium 🤤) however I was not able to justify the predictable plot as an extension of the messy overarching theme. I did adore the consistent melancholy tone.

    Luxurious, atmospheric, French romance 💅
Definitively a masterpiece for its time and forever an intimate glimpse into the past. Notable camerawork, scene design, fashion, and dialogue.

Although I can’t say it stuck the landing with the anticlimactic ending, Madame De was incredibly charming. I wish the romance between Louise and Fabrizio had more depth, however the scene of her torn love letters fading into snowflakes was everything. Visually stunning in the way it evokes a dreamlike state alluding to Louise’s detached perception of reality.

Clear themes of abundance, religion, and commentary on a woman’s place in high society.

The ritualistic sex party should have been approximately 2 hours and 39 minutes longer and everything else omitted (minus Alan Cumming’s cameo).
