Sonic the Hedgehog 3 2024
Nostalgic for anyone who played Sonic Adventure 2: Battle or watched Sonic X and remembers the Shadow story arc. While Jim Carrey’s over the top portrayal of both Robotnik’s was hilarious the movie was also grounded by serious and sad moments. The final act of the movie is its strongest, both visually and in storytelling. Overall it’s the most crowd-pleasing of the three films and also the most fun in many ways.

Lights Out 2016
Extremely underrated horror film. As a fan of horror, I look for three things when rating a successful film. 1) is it surprising? 2) are the characters believable? 3) does it have a good ending? Hunt for the Wilderpeople 2016
The perfect blend of writing, directing, and acting. The characters such as Ricky Baker, Hec, Paula, and Psycho Sam all have tremendous personality and character. The actors bring them all to life and deliver dialogue that is both comical and believable. Taika Waititi set himself apart as a storytelling director here by adding a convicting storyline and constantly grounding the characters in reality when sh*t gets real. Excellent score as well and unique use of close-ups and zoom-ins for extra comedic effect.
