  I actually adore the last 10 minutes of this film so much it's not even funny, I was bawling my fucking eyes out at the party scene like holy shit it's actually just perfect; that need to constantly mask your emotions around the person you love unrequitedly because not doing so would hurt them and the way her expressions oscillate within the scene to reflect this and the fucking emotional dissonance and the musical dissonance and the fucking everything - it's all so perfect. God Akerman can fucking cook. Doomed yuri never ceases to absolutely kill me.

  Really wish the full version of this hadn't been lost, even as a soundless 26 minute reel I really like it a lot. Has such an interesting mood and colour pallette, and the people in it all feel very distinctive and have a very defined presence even without any sound to go off of.
