Even a day later I think this film hasn't fully sunken in. Paul Thomas Anderson specialises in big films, and this is definitely a big film. The pacing is well thought out and the intensity at times feels like it's going through the roof as the lead characters of Freddie and Lancaster repeatedly clash and reconcile as they both struggle with their own and each other's problems.

Quirky, stylish and beautiful. I felt it took a while to get going, but when it did it was worth the wait. The whole ensemble of characters weren't all as well written as those of The Royal Tenenbaums, but this was a far more 'cool' film where the great acting is mainly needed from Murray and the rest is down to sleek composition and a wonderful soundtrack of Bowie songs in Portuguese. Considering this is the same writing/directing duo that made Juno, this is a pretty big disappointment. Everything about it is predictable.
While Juno was full of youthful charm, Young Adult feels tired and worn out like it's character Mavis. The film shows her downward spiral as she fixates more and more on her youth though instead of being a liberating experience, it comes across more cringey and bordering on annoying.

Definitely the kind of film that divides film audiences. Realism to a point which some may consider slow while others finely paced. I find myself in the latter category.
Wendy and Lucy is almost like the anti-road trip movie, not showing the fun, care-free journey seen in many films but instead the bitter reality that travelling through many states on limited money would be.
