  I posted this (to no one) on Facebook — my brief thoughts on the film:

  I didn't hate it. But I certainly didn't love it. I'm not even sure I LIKED it. 

  There are elements that impressed me — I thought Affleck was great, loved Wonder Woman, and applaud the idea of casting Jeremy Irons as Alfred. 

  But overall I found it an exhausting, aesthetically ugly thing. Jesse Eisenberg was awful. The introduction of the JL characters was laughably dumb.…

  It is the exclamation point in the title of “Aferim!” that seems to illustrate its creators’ intentions. A harsh, unflinching Romanian drama set in the 19th century, the film is – against all odds – very, very funny. (The title means “Bravo,” and, the Wiktionary tells us, it often has an ironic meaning.)
