When I was younger, I had an odd perception of the Disney canon. My father worked in animation and (miraculously, given some of his stories) kept his love for it enough that he wanted to ensure his children could grow up with it. The best cure for 'modern movie' malaise is to sit back and enjoy something made before the rules were so tight. When there wasn't a cottage industry for nitpicking and fully stocked stations for the fun police.

It's probably pretentious to say that a movie is good for the mind itself, not just as a source of entertainment but as a refreshment for the mind. It probably is, but at the same time I believe this movie truly is. It's not perfect, certain scenes drag and the first viewing can sometimes bring you to boredom, but persist. It's not a movie you might 'enjoy', but it's a movie you owe yourself to watch.

In ‘Jodorowsky’s Dune’, one of the filmmakers interviewed describes the process of reading the original illustrated script for the project from Mobeius, giving particular reverence to how they felt ‘transported’. Jodorowsky never got to make his Dune (and honestly, looking at it with an honest eye, it probably would’ve been a mess and/or not really ‘Dune’), and Villenvue’s Dune is a very different interpretation, but watching Dune Part Two, I couldn’t help but keep remembering that one scene, to be…
