Jazz Fest: A New Orleans Story 2022
There is a seemingly unintended subplot to this film about cultural appropriation. The crowds become increasingly more white, especially post Hurricane Katrina.
I enjoyed a good portion of the film. The first half featuring the original artists is great and the energy and the incredible music are infectious. Once it becomes a showcase for Dave Matthew’s Band, Katy Perry, and Jimmy Buffet, it’s easy to tune out.
Buffet’s involvement not only as a performer, but also as a producer of the documentary is especially distracting. The fact that he gets the final performance of the film seems fitting for the unintended theme.
