A great story. As is Scorsese, I expected a long and complex watch, and it delivers. Some of the choices of makeup and visuals were slightly odd, some sequences of fights seemed a bit rigid and strangely satisfying executed. Comparing this film to Flower Moon, I thought maybe the cinematographer working on the project was different, but no, it’s the same guy. Apart from the few odd lighting, set, makeup and general ‘vibe’ choices, one of my favourites.

Killers of the Flower Moon 2023
Intensely heartbreaking, one of Scorsese’s best. The writing was perfect, watching the characters regress under the pressure of greed was an overbearing frustration until the end, especially DiCaprio’s character, naive and impressionable as he was. It ends with the final words being spoken by Scorsese himself, which I think was a masterful touch to show he cares not just for the success of the film but for the success of its message, even if it does seem like we hear of these atrocities every day. Can’t praise this film enough. Watch it, read the book. I’ll be reading the book next.

Fight Club 1999
A great film. A strong candidate for the most edgy late 90’s early 00’s film WITH an A-List actor. Violent, culturally significant, and the lighting makes me feel cozy. Performances from Pitt and Bonham Carter were stellar, unhinged and at times problematic, love that. Edward Norton as the protagonist delivers the perfect vessel for these two nutters to orbit around.

X 2022
Texas Chainsaw with tits. I watched this one on a recommendation from a HMV cashier. He said it was sick. I don’t remember much except the transition between porn and murder. I must have been taking a piss or something, but when I got back someone was screaming and an old women? Meh.
