Even thought the sets and Godzilla costume aren't what modern audiences may consider good special effects it still has more depth and pathos than all the other Godzilla movies combined. I can't imagine the feelings seeing it must've stirred, when it came out, less than a decade after the complete devastation and tragedy of the atomic bombs.
The miniature set work is amazing!
