Hit a lot of pleasure buttons and was actually funny for most of its runtime. Not just nostalgia for nostalgia's sake.

The Killers 1946
Quintessential Noir. Not quite a must see for everyone, but if you love the genre, you'll love this. It really hangs on its flashback structure, owing a lot to Citizen Kane, pulling some threads, then doubling back, until it's opened the whole Russian nesting doll story of The Swede & Kitty Collins. It's a bit long, but I enjoyed following along with the investigation.

One False Move 1991
This is a WOW kind of film. Roger Ebert called it the best movie of 1992, and that's what landed me here. I'm not prepared to go that far, but it's close. For its era, it's about as good an American Crime film that you could ask for, because it's not just about the crime but America too.
