Top Gun: Maverick 2022
It starts off with a meta awareness of the ridiculousness of a Top Gun sequel being made 30 years later but that tongue in cheek understanding quickly fades away to make way for a great movie. They go all in and fully embrace what made the original so good.

Bad Times at the El Royale 2018
This movie was setting itself up to be amazing. It had an interesting premise and interesting characters and the entire time you can tell something wasn't right with the hotel.
