The one thing this movie has over Villneauve's Dune is the weirdness - Dune is a very bizarre book and while Part II did a better job of capturing that than Part 1, I think Lynch's Dune takes the cake when it comes to strangeness.
Lots of stuff here is more book accurate - the Harkonnens are very gross and kind of goofy - but then it completely goes off the rails at other points, like when they introduce shields…
A monumental achievement in virtually every regard. It's abundantly clear that everyone involved in making this movie - actors, VFX artists, directors, musicians - were at the top of their game. Part 2 does an exceptional job of juggling the expectations of a big blockbuster - action, drama, etc. - while still hammering home Frank Herberts central themes of religion, politics, and messiah figures.
Is it a perfect Dune adaptation? No, because that would be a 16 hour, $500 million monstrosity.

I don't know who came up with "send a predator to 1700's America and have him fight some French trappers and Native Americans" but whoever did deserves a big raise. It COULD have been goofy (and sometimes borders on it), but Prey avoids this by making even this lowly, beginner-tier Predator a legitimately powerful threat against anything that's thrown at it.
