The Substance 2024
horrific, disgusting, deranged, deeply emotionally upsetting, absolutely artistically beautiful, EXTREMELY visceral in every aspect. i've never had a movie make me wanna cringe, laugh, and cry my eyes out at the same time before, an incredible gourmet meal ironically. i am now extremely physically aware of my kneecaps. 12/5 glad i wasn't eating.

i was familiar with the story this movie is based on, a very infamous tale, and thought this was a very interesting (re)telling of it!
there are so many incredible and memorable visual moments. the design of the ship, both exterior and interior, being somehow both organic and volcanic, giving a feeling of something familiar but at the same time beyond...scrumptious. in fact the scene of the ship hanging in the clearing, glowing an ominous red into the cool blue…
