  Really close to being great, I wondered a few times what was cut and why several threads of the story were left in so thinly. Ella needs more depth and I wanted more of the story conveyed through animation. 

  There is an enjoyable folk-horror element, the acting is solid, and the animation is fantastically gruesome. There’s one point in the movie that was a perfect opportunity to segue into a long animation sequence. I was bummed when the live action resumed.

  The Weird Studies podcast released a lovely ep on this a few weeks ago and I’ve been wanting to rewatch it since listening. The boys and I watched it for my birthday after I got off work and we stayed up well past bedtime. Sander asked so many questions! It was fun to hear where his curiosities lay. We talked about spirits and opposites and oblivious parents and we all sat on the couch together with Winston Cat and shared some Valentines chocolates. Cozy and so sweet.
