A brutally beautiful satire about longing, loneliness and listlessness
The heart-wrenching third feature from writer/director Riley Stearns (Faults, The Art Of Self-Defense) is sufficiently canny as to pre-empt any reductive reviews. Is it cold? Dark? Brutal? Yes, yes and yes. But the strange duplexity of this sci-fi noir/post-horror/existential satire is that its savagery seeps from such a tender place – DUAL all trapped emotion. Indeed, Stearns mocks the metaphysical "Whyyy?"
