A very entertaining watch.
The film delves into the singular, turbulent, and iconic life of the man who is very possibly the greatest chess player who has ever lived.
The film does an exemplary job of depicting both Bobby Fischer’s internal conflicts, aswell those he had with the outside world. Whether it be with his great rival Boris Spassky, or with the entire world which he was so convinced was agsinst him.
Pawn Sacrifice is riveting and engaging right from…
One can understand why other people might like this film. The set design is a masterclass, and the acting of William DeFoe is as engaging as ever. However, for me personally, the film has very little in the way of any other redeeming qualities. The performances of Mark Ruffalo and Emma Stone are clearly professionally well executed, but the characters they play are not ones which I feel do their acting skills any justice.
All in all, I cannot recommend this film.
