Most engaged I've ever been watching the film. It is a perfect 103 minutes that feels like 150 in the best way. The layers of analysis have only deepened through the rise of social media and the culture of performance in every day life. From a 2018 perspective, as Truman begins to realize his own reality, so too I am enlightened to my own reality. The closer he gets to the wall, the more I feel the need to move away from social media and technology.

Found the brutality and insanity in this almost unbearable in the later half. Was ready to be a full on hater of this. But then the scene of Bess returning to the ship hits. I stopped considering whether or not her prayers to god were psychosis or immature childishness, and instead took them seriously and sincerely. The bells ringing may be a bit silly for some, but I couldn’t help but smile.

I honestly should be put in prison for purchasing a full priced imax ticket opening night for this because I used up all of my AMC a-list uses for the week. I’m glad the fans loved this. Good for them. But my god there has got to be more to life than just getting exactly what you want.

Fun easy time. Rob Pat is so so good. Don’t know how he pulled this off. Creepers good and cute. Bong so great at making you feel absolutely awful whenever a non-human is killed. This missed a bit of the death questioning of the book tho. And what it means to truly live. Instead the adaptation is much more zeroed in on the metaphorical nature of being expendable under late/stage capitalism. Which makes sense given Bong’s other stuff. Found it a little too on the nose. Feel this movie is worthwhile tho and I’m glad he went for something like this.
