Maybe the most unremarkable m night shyamalan movie I've seen. Feels like a retread of the happening & signs in terms of themes. The whole thing really hinges on if you believe in the premise & fear of the apocalypse or not, but whether or not you did doesn't feel like it really has an impact by the end of the movie. Is this supposed to be just entertainment, or thought-provoking? Doesn't land for me on either of those fronts.
Also, Boogie Shoes was a Civil War-level needle drop that made for the such a tonally confusing ending. Love you for that M night
Watched this as a 1pm matinee where the only other ppl in the crowd were old ladies, wouldn't want it any other way tbh. Also, during the credits one of them turned to her friend and said "she was a pretty good dancer" lol
Ended up getting motivated to see this after it won the best picture oscar and wow I can't believe that Anora wasn't on my radar at all when it came out. Every scene is animated with…
Great movie, gorgeously shot and scored. Similar to Cría cuervos or Welcome to the Dollhouse or Dídí, a narrative about growing up and having things happen to you that are just out of your control, and not knowing how to deal with it. A movie more about life than anything, learning to take the good with the bad. Wanted a bit more resolution at the end, though I didn't expect that there would be much. Kind of sprawling, a lot of characters and threads to follow, and feel like I didn't totally comprehend the whole scope of this. Very enjoyable though!
