Buñuel-esque w gritty social realist vibes & surrealist flights. a revolution film which implicates even the "artist" class, who desire a better world and generally have the loudest voices and farthest reach but are juuust comfortable enough to get by with the status quo. I want to avoid spoilers but this beautifully shot film ends by becoming a painting. there's also lots of tape music! this review is partially a note to myself to check out more work by Hala Elkoussy.…

The Last Seduction 1994
this feels like an incel's ironic straw-man distillation of second-wave feminism circa the 90s, complete with utter disregard for anyone not white, heterosexual, or cisgendered (which imo feels more hateful than blatant insult).
also it's just hard to understand how anyone would actually fall for a sleazy antiheroine jordan belfort no matter how conventionally physically attractive she is. I've felt more emotionally invested watching those horrible mandatory data security training videos they require for office jobs than I ever felt at any point in this nearly 2 hour film.
