This is the actual film I think about when they say they don’t make films like this anymore
Also Faye Dunaway
The Talented Mr Ripley for the Influencer generation
The performances are the best part of this film, namely Jacob Elordi & Barry Keoghan. The feature itself being once again extremely well directed by Emerald Fennell. There were some things that really bothered me about this film in terms of the way certain plot elements are used, in addition to subtle writing and character choices that I felt were underused or poorly written. Lot of promise but I feel like I could’ve got more out of this film. No denying Fennell’s talent and very encouraging after two well-made features
This picture was never going to be as good as the collective cast within a 2hr runtime, that’s beside the point. Despite it’s ensemble cast and a very on the nose theme it still manages to weave additional layers of thematic ideas into it’s script with some degree of subtlety. I can imagine this script was somewhat challenging considering these points, yet Adam McKay showcases capable hands dealing with a project of this magnitude, further compounded by the terrific performances…
How the fuck they pitched this to John Malkovich is beyond me
“Masheen?”
“Malcatraz! How are you?”
