A fictional biopic by a living artist is such a wild concept, since it allows Hockney to rewrite his own history and present himself to the world as he wants to be seen. He is everything here - a unique artistic voice, proudly queer, mischievous, witty, sexy and mysterious. The queer content in this gave it an X-rating for obscenity, but today it stands the test of time as an icon of queer cinema and, interestingly, a roadmap for what we recognize as reality television. It’s fucking great. Watch it.

I found this in vhs for 25 cents and its pretty charming, but the winner is the scene where the children have a farting contest and the one kid shits himself.

you can almost taste the atmosphere coming through the screen. it’s a lovely story, but the long, gentle and tenderly shot scenes of everyday life have stuck with me for days. I sat spellbound watching a girl transfixed by a cluster of ants, a papaya salad being prepared, or the sweat slowly building on a furrowed brow. this is a magical film.
