Lack luster story beats accompanied by a great score and a heartwarming conclusion for the two best buds. Narratively, this series didn’t end with a bang but they still put love into Hiccup and Tothless’s farewell and I love them for that.
Bigger isn’t always better. A lot of the heart and visuals from the original still shine through in this one but with an incredibly one dimensional villain and the film’s own indecision about what it wants you to focus on, You’re definitely left wanting more. Still, it has a fair share of heartwarming hugs, funny jokes and of course some of the coolest dragon shit you could ask for. Hiccup and Toothless are still awesome and I wish the rest…
Want to start out by saying that this 15 year old animated film has better lighting than a lot of live action films today. You can see the talent and care that went into crafting every damp, foggy shot in the forest to the majestic flying shots that make you feel like you’re breaking through the clouds yourself.
