It's really real and that makes it both awesome and awful to watch
It's so beautiful and it's so sad and somehow hits on so many disparate topics - lost love, navigating relationships, the immigrant experience, work culture, among others. The meta moments of Arthur realizing that it's a good story and that he's a side character in it are so well done, and I will be thinking about what he says about what if it was someone else who did all the same things for a long time.
The cinematography does so much heavy lifting to establish the feeling of the movie in sometimes subtle and sometimes very overt ways. It really feels like a work of art.
I found it to be a fundamentally sad movie. I initially expected the Jewish part of it to be more influential, but it was actually about the relationship of the main characters and their experiences with navigating grief and stress. The movie provides very few answers to these questions, only showing that everyone's individual answer is deeply flawed. I especially liked the ending which really drives this idea home and left me feeling a bit empty inside
