An oppressively dark, modern fairy tale, complete with all-too human monsters and set in the shadow of the Great War, The Girl with the Needle is beautifully shot and brilliantly realized – and I never want to watch or even think about it again. Except, maybe, the scene where one of the characters goes full Colonel Jessep and delivers the equivalent of “you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall!”
