This movie is absolutely beautiful to look at, treating the food and its preparation with the same loving care that the characters show. It’s undeniably quiet and slow, and thus not for everyone, but I found myself contentedly smiling throughout. I also kept thinking about how much my mom would have LOVED this.
So fun to see this seminal book of my childhood brought to life almost 50 years after I read it!
I downloaded this to watch on a trip, recognizing that I probably needed to be somewhat captive in order to actively choose to watch a three-hour movie. Little did I know that I had inadvertently chosen a version that was dubbed and had audio description. (Ugh.) Though I would much rather have just read subtitles and gotten to hear the original actors, I found the movie really interesting and thought-provoking. I expect I’ll keep mulling this one over for a while.
Loved this movie! So sweet and clever and, at times, even laugh-out-loud funny.
