Comparatively equal to Thor The Dark World. Nothing special. No character arc worth admiring. Crazy things happened but too lesser were the risk. Overall an okay action movie.

You can clearly see that there’s so much enjoyment and love for the filmmaking even if nothing makes any sense. I am impressed on how much they’ve appealed to the scenery shots, something that I think is very important for a fantasy quest story.

The effects are outdated for sure. But the lore itself brings this spiritual filipino culture that I absolutely enjoy seeing and the three main characters do hold the film together. The story does lose itself at times.

Mrs. Flood is basically the Mr. Poopybutthole of Doctor Who.

Although, I do think it was a great two parter finale, the lack of character development between the Doctor and Ruby didn’t hit the emotional beats as much as Russell T. Davies wanted.

The plot between the unveiling of the main villain and the mystery behind Ruby’s mother wasn’t well balance. Sometimes it doesn’t know which storyline it wants to focus first, and whenever it tries to tie the two…

It sucks that a modern noir masterpiece isn’t much talk about.

I absolutely love everything about this movie. From the backstory of the kid detective, from the characteristic of the town that explores the pitiful depression of adulthood, and from the alcoholic yet teremined private detective played remarkablely by Adam Brody. It solidified itself a great justice to the genre, making me appreciate the formula more than I took granted.

It reminds me of Brick and Brothers Bloom if Rian Johnson stayed with noir and unfolded a darker topic.
