Overwhelmingly just ok, which isn't surprising. Jenna Ortega plays herself, Paul Rudd's acting feels extremely forced, the writing is quippy and fine I guess. Offers an interesting premise but tonally swings between taking itself kinda too seriously and then being so camp it's enjoyable albeit briefly.

Definite highlight is Will Poulter's portrayal of the incompetent richboy with incomparably good comedic timing. Loved that and that alone.

I love A24 but like, did we really need to make this? Idk, maybe. Also further proof that art history is essential in any situation, Hannah Gadsby was correct

I went into watching this already knowing the big spoiler, plot twist, whatever you want to call it. And even if I hadn't known, I would've been able to guess within the first couple of minutes. This is just yet another movie that Didn't Need to Get Made.

I saw this movie as a part of the Wisconsin Film Festival, and it did not disappoint. I went in with measured expectations and was pleasantly surprised by this film and its world building, dialogue, score, and narrative arcs.

Calling this movie "indie Twilight" feels almost dismissive, because it has so much more emotional depth and possibility than Twilight ever did. This film locates vampirism within a modern context not within a teen fantasy romance, but the realities of coming…
