I’ll admit… the ending will leave something to be desired.
That being said, the first half of this movie employed EXCELLENT writing. The complications were creative, the antagonists weren’t stupid, and the protagonist was capable (which is nice - sometimes watching a person EVENTUALLY acquire skill is a bit of a buzzkill).
There were no weak links in terms of performance. AnnaSophia Robb stole the show for me in multiple scenes, though the lead was really strong (and was convincing as an American!).
