On first watch this was just a good movie. Nothing more
On rewatch I’m enlightened
This IS a masterpiece
It has so much to say and the message is delivered with a great sense of authenticity and significance
I’m totally blown away

Very powerful third act
Third act is why this is rated so high
It all came together
That upside down shot of the Statue of Liberty encapsulates the entire movie
An entrancing atmosphere. This movie’s acting, soundtrack, and beautiful shots worked to create something I couldn’t look away from.
The main romance between Alma and Reynolds has become one of my new favourite dynamics in film.
Daniel Day-Lewis and his mastery of acting never fails to impress me. Reynolds Woodcock is very, very real. His eccentric nature can be cold, relatable and/or humorous. Every time he expressed himself through dialogue or through facial expressions I was either biting my nails or dying of laughter. This movie was absolutely hilarious.
Phantom Thread is a timeless masterpiece that far exceeded my expectations. I am already excited to rewatch this.
One thing I can’t watch is a boring movie. This film was anything but that. Was it crazy? Yes. Was it surprisingly funny? Yes. Did it cause me to wince and look away from the screen? Definitely. Did it bore me? Hell no.
I enjoyed every second of this polarizing masterpiece. A beautiful self-critique of one’s inner nihilism. With all that being said, I will NEVER recommend this movie to anyone, EVER.
