  Plenty of giallo staples (black gloves, violent deaths, useless police, needlessly complicated plot, nonsensical title), but little of the style the genre is known for. Bad practical effects, even for the time. Set in Dublin though, which is weird.

  Well acted (especially by a scenery devouring Malkovich and Letterboxd's favourite girl Edibiri), and well enough written and shot. Just a bit meh unfortunately.

  Stop wasting Amber Midthunder in nothing roles as well please.

  On a second watch, it's one of the most powerful horror films ever made. Extremely unpleasant, but isn't that what we want from the genre sometimes?

  This time I watched Deodato's cut with the animal cruelty taken out, and much as I hate to say it (I'm an animal lover and vegetarian), it does lose some of it's power without those scenes. Obviously no animal should be killed in the name of entertainment, but I think Cannibal Holocaust is the…
