  Not sure exactly how I feel about this. The honesty of this film borders on exploitation. But there is also beauty in it. Somewhere here it feels like there's an important commentary on modern masculinity. But the film would rather give you a window than paint a picture of any kind.

  Lucky enough to see this in the theater. There were a total of 3 of us in the audience on a snowy Friday in Philly. I was skeptical. Slick, stylish, big budget bio-pics always rub me as propaganda. But this one is an exception in many ways. The performances really shook me. The music worked wonders.   Good lord what a fun movie. I wanna go to concerts again so fucking bad. And play instruments dressed as a lady with a troupe of traveling blondes. The Catholic Church's Legion of Decency rated the film "morally objectionable" and it was disapproved by the Hays Code before release and banned in Kansas – it still grossed $25 Million in the US at a time when a movie ticket cost $0.69.
