In "Beau," director Ari Aster takes the audience on a surreal 3-hour journey through the mind of a character struggling with trauma, fear, and a lack of autonomy. I finds Phoenix's portrayal of Beau to be impactful, as it highlights how fear can limit one's potential and keep them trapped in a cycle of insecurity and repetitive behavior even toward an old age.
The film's opening scene sets the tone for the cerebral and existential themes that permeate the rest…
I've never seen my self represented in a film like this before.
So many new surroundings experienced by David triggered little flashbacks within myself and little details in my upbringing.
Powerful performances by the cast. It felt very authentic.
Wonderful story overall.
