Tiff 2024
No notes! But in al honestly this movie is truly amazing. It follows Souleymane, a young delivery driver working under the table by renting a DoorDash account, striving to save enough for his asylum interview. Abou Sangare delivers an honest and beautiful performance in his debut role as Souleymane. The director masterfully captures the immigrant experience with both nuance and honesty. Filmed entirely in Paris without street closures, the film feels vibrant and immersive. One standout moment is the scene of Souleymane sprinting to catch the metro. The film blends heartfelt storytelling with the pace of a thriller making it an engaging watch.
Saw this at Tiff 2024 and glad I did! I’m not a fan of body horror but thought this was such a unique take on the experience of grief. The movie itself was entertaining, sad and quite dark at times. I did find it dragging a bit near the end but overall a nuanced exploration of grief and loss of a partner.
