The Northman 2022
Most of the movie was shot at night, which was a shame because the Icelandic landscape stole the show. That volcano scene, while reminiscent of “I have the high ground!” from Star Wars, was epic.
Despite those highlights, the movie was a bit…monotone. Saarsgard was hulking and scary but basically just mad. I found myself wishing that there was a little more time and attention spent on kingdom building, and the struggle for power and land, but it was instead a good ‘ol revenge story with some weird Eggers mysticism woven in there. An interesting watch, but not mind-blowing.
