I watched this with a group, somewhat against my will. The plot is actually really stupid if you take a second to think about it, and what on earth was Nicolas Cage doing in this? Way too scary for Daniel.
Final Assessment: Could've used more singing/dancing and less murders.
Could've used more singing and large ensemble dance numbers.
On a serious note:
I genuinely have no idea why this movie is as loved and acclaimed as it is. While admittedly not my kind of movie, it feels like a generic, straight-to-DVD action film with some truly horrendous acting. I will say, it's unquestionably a Christmas movie--I have no clue how that one's a debate--although, not a very good one.
