“You're like a sword without a sheath. You cut well, but the best sword is kept in its sheath.“

Another one checked off the watchlist. Sanjuro is billed as the sequel to Yojimbo. However, aside from the main character, nearly everything is different. There’s hardly anyway to differentiate the two chronologically. Sanjuro could’ve just as easily taken place before the events in Yojimbo. There’s an episodic feel to the two films which I really enjoy.

“I'll get paid for killing, and this town is full of people who deserve to die.”

Such a simple premise executed on an epic scale and to absolute perfection. I’ve got no notes here, just some things to say. This is the blue print for an action and while that remains true, Yojimbo is hilariously goofy at times. The shot selection and framing is excellent. Just some really good dry humor. Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro are great, but I forgot just how funny Owen Wilson is in this role. A little slower than expected but a good time nonetheless.

“When dogs get sick, they often bite the hand of those who fed them, until someone mercifully puts them down.”

Struggled to rate this. Depending on the day this could be bumped up or down half a star.

The Brutalist, directed by Brady Corbet, is the kind of film that sticks with you days after watching it. The inspiration pulled from cinematic legends such as Martin Scorsese and Paul Thomas Anderson is evident. Upon reflection, it’s difficult to pin down what…
