  Absurd brilliant & beautiful

  It’s incredible how evocative Haynes manages to make the doll scenes. The rest of the interspersed footage is so balanced and intentional in every detail, down to the caption cards. Those were gorgeous. I think a lot of these choices could easily come off kitschy or indulgent but Haynes doesn’t make it feel that way.   Hallucinatory

  I watched both the French version and the English version two days back to back. The French version was predictably better, although I found the disparity between the two to be smaller than with most translations which is admirable. I plan on watching the Japanese translation in the future. I think that will be even more meaningful, since a lot of the movie is about East and West.
