Incredibly funny, especially as a Russian speaker, and I was pleasantly surprised at just how much Russian (and even Post-Soviet) humour was incorporated into an American film - it was refreshing to be able to appreciate the humour from both cultural perspectives. despite this initial novelty, the jokes got stale and repetitive after a while and the pacing of the first 3/4 felt too overwhelming and rushed. the lack of character exploration and attachment was also a disappointment for me.…

This movie starts out strong, by enticing you with beautiful, vivid colours, not unlike the amazing concept of multiplayer dreaming. Slowly however, this pipe dream falls apart and sucks the viewer into a confusing but entertaining journey, not knowing who or what to trust the whole time. Thoug this movie was very alluring at the beginning, the ending of it reminded me of a typical superhero/evil villain scenario, which disappointed me, as Satoshi Kon definitely had the imagination to create a more inventive ending.
